If you have overly large breasts and wish they were smaller and less heavy, there is a cosmetic surgery designed for you. Breast reduction can put an end to the back aches, the bra straps biting into your shoulders, the posture problems and the skin irritation. They can free you up for playing volleyball, riding a bike, hiking, or whatever outdoor activities you would like to participate in.
If you are planning to become pregnant or breastfeed in the future, you may be asked to wait and to have your breast reduction after that part of your life is finished. You would need to inform your cosmetic surgeon of your medical history and what medications you are taking, if any. There would be Before and After photos taken both for the surgeon's office file and your own records.
The Breast Reduction Procedure Your breast reduction will be entirely customized and planned ahead of time. If you have no problem with loose and flabby skin, liposuction can be used to remove unwanted fat. It uses very small incisions, which reduces surgical risk and scar size. If you need excess skin removed as well as excess fat, your doctor will accomplish that with surgical instruments rather than using liposuction.
Any excess glandular tissue is removed. The nipples may or may not need to be relocated higher on the breasts. You could have the areolas reduced in size if that would enhance your breast appearance.
When your surgery is complete, you will have dressings or bandages and a surgical bra for support. Your breasts will now be smaller but because of the temporary swelling and the dressings, they may not look a lot smaller yet.
Recovering From Breast Reduction The immediate recovery will take about two weeks. You will have the stitches removed by the end of that time and much of the swelling and bruising will fade. Your cosmetic surgeon will have given you prescriptions for a painkiller and probably an antibiotic. Printed recovery instructions will tell you how to care for yourself during this time and you will have a series of follow-up visits so your cosmetic surgeon can monitor your progress.
Your full reduction results will be evident after a few months when all the swelling has subsided. You will notice your improved body proportions and how much less weight you are carrying around. You can go out now and buy a new closetful of clothes and enjoy your new freedom from heavy breasts.
